Science is Happening!

Why were Moreh Moshe and Moti spotted on the HAMC roof on Wednesday??

The only answer could be..."Science is Happening Day"!! Our 4th graders were tried with the mission of constructing a casing that would cushion and protect an egg from a one story drop.  Moreh Moshe and Moti dropped the encased eggs from the school rooftop while we all awaited the results. While we did witness some SPLATTS!, many of the eggs landed safely. The 5th graders had to create parachutes with everyday materials that would stay up in the air for as long as possible. We watched each parachute smoothly float down from the rooftop. Science was definitely "happening" at the HAMC!

4th Graders Go Back in Time to the Colonial Days

"Hear ye! Hear ye!
Welcome to the Fourth Grade Colonial Fair!
Our 4th Graders have gone back in time to the Colonial days of the 1700's in New Jersey.  We have converted our classroom into many craft shoppes for you to visit.  In those days, master craftsmen would take young apprentices and teach them their trade.  Our 4th grade town has many talented craftsmen too, and we want YOU to be our apprentices! Every shoppe has interesting things for you to SEE and DO.
Be sure to visit our Calligrapher, Potpourri Shoppe, Toymaker, Potter, Broom Maker, Apothecary, Baker, School Master, Tinsmith, Stenciler, Weaver and Candler!

Please try to visit them all and HAVE FUN!"

Tzeitchem L'Shalom to Lior and Noga...

Yesterday we said goodbye to our Rishonim, Lior and Noga, after an incredible year of learning about Israel and its culture with them. As a final activity, they planned for us אם כל ההפסקות, "The Recess of all Recesses" where they encompassed all of the awesome activities that we have done over the year into one amazing recess! We ate chummus and pita, relived the Tel Aviv Beach, danced to Israeli music and so much more!  Lior and Noga also put together a beautiful slide show of pictures and videos that capture their time spent with us at the HAMC (see video below).

Lior and Noga, we will miss you so much and we will see you in Israel!  B'hatzlacha Rabah!!

5th Grade Explores the USA

A Message from 5th Grade teacher, Mrs. Marash:

On May 23, 2012 the 5th Grade presented their research reports in our annual States Festival; each student had to research one state.  For ten weeks the children researched twenty-five facts using books, almanacs, encyclopedias, the Internet and i-Pads to aid them in completing their project.  The class's beautiful finished products were displayed and discussed during the festival.  The children also sang and shared snacks from their states.
I was totally impressed by the class's diligence and enthusiasm during the research and at the presentation.  The 5th Grade did an outstanding job and I am so proud of them.

The morning concluded with a special family breakfast overflowing with excitement as the students showed off the beautiful Siddurim to their parents.

Making Israeli Pen Pals

Hello! This is Sydney Altman and Paige Epstein in Israel. We are coming to the end of our magnificent trip and will be flying back tomorrow. Despite the small amount of time left in Israel, we are still having a stupendous time. Today, we met our Israeli pen pals from Rishon Le Zion. Our group met them at their beautiful school and got to know them. Together we traveled to a beet field where we participated in a mitzvah of harvesting beets and assisting the needy by doing so. We all went out to lunch together at a nearby mall and after went to Tel Aviv with them. In Tel Aviv we made our way to a beach for activities to help us bond even more. We all had so much fun and by the end of the day, we were all such close friends. We plan to keep in touch with our new friends, and maybe see them again someday. We continue to enjoy ourselves greatly, and even though we will miss Israel, we are very excited to see you all soon.

8th Grade's Final Shabbat in Israel...

Hi, this is Jesse Kellar from Israel. We had a great and relaxing Shabbat in Jerusalem.

First, we went to Shul. We grouped off into four synagogues. There was an Orthodox, a “Feminist Orthodox”, a Conservative and a Reform Shul. The Orthodox ones were Mechizah minyans, however, in the Feminist Orthodox one, they count only a minyan with ten men AND ten women.  We learned that men and women both lead, but just different parts of the service. The group heading to the Conservative service found the school it was supposed to be in, but nobody was there and they joined the Reform minyan. There was a Bat Mitzvah going on in the Reform service and we really enjoyed listening to her read from the Torah.
After Shul we went to lunch and had free time after that. During free time, some of us swam or just hung out.  After Havdalah, we went to Ben Yehuda street to shop, this time without the danger of being sprayed with shaving cream. We went into small groups and wandered around and some people had visitors.
We got back really late, but everybody had a really fun time!
