Frogs Here...Frogs There...
Today our 7th Graders embarked on one of the most exciting science projects that we do at the HAMC...Frog Dissection!! The students split up into groups and Mrs. Wynn distributed the frogs, instruction packets and dissection tools. The 7th Grade can't wait to jump right into this "froggy" experiment as the week goes on!

Seventh Grade Seeding
Amongst all of the excitement of Israel's birthday today, the 7th graders had a chance to sneak out to the Green House with Mrs. Wynn and do some planting of their own. They filled up pots with soil and fertilizer and each student planted a different seed, including onions, tomatoes and sunflowers. When the plants were ready to be watered, they placed the plants in the Green House, took a giant step back and watched as the sprinklers flooded the plants with water, giving them life.

Welcome to Camp HAMC!
On Thursday morning, sleepaway camp invaded HAMC! Martin Sipicki, a special visitor from Argentina came to the HAMC to give the middle school students a feel for the incredible NJY sleepaway camps. While some of our students already go to NJY sleepaway camps (Camp Cedar Lake, Camp Nesher, and more) others are getting ready to go for their first time this summer! Our visitors put us into the camp spirit, teaching us some catchy camp-fire songs, playing a heated game of Simon Says, and singing and dancing to a camp favorite "Salaam". If we weren't excited for sleepaway camp already, we definitely were after this special event!

Shabbaton 2012!
Even with the arrival of 2012's first snow, this years Shabbaton was a huge success! Our 5th-8th graders had a blast spending the night in school and celebrating Shabbat together.
Here were some of our favorite highlights!
There was a real sense of community and family reflected from the Shabbaton that the students created on their own. The students were filled with so much spirit and excitement throughout the entire Shabbaton and really had an unforgettable weekend. We can't wait for next year!
A big thanks to Moreh Moshe, Mrs. Bacharach, Morah Nurit, Ms. Gates, Jaclyn, Lior and Noga for putting the Shabbaton together and making sure everyone had a great time throughout the weekend!
Check out photos below of before Shabbat (candle lighting) and after shabbat (Havdallah).
Here were some of our favorite highlights!
- Bringing in Shabbat with spirited singing led by Moreh Moshe
- Beautiful Kabbalat Shabbat service
- Delicious Shabbat dinner
- Staying up late bonding with our classmates
- Playing in the SNOW!
- Home cooked food from Morah Nurit and Mrs. Bacharach
- Challenging teambuilding games
- Creating our own culinary creations in a heated Iron Chef competition

7th Grade Explores Science of Spores
Yesterday in the science lab, Mrs. Wynn taught the 7th grade all about fungus reproduction. The students built their own fruiting bodies and spores using cotton balls, balloons, straws, and modeling clay. The students simulated the actual reproduction process by popping their inflated balloons and observing as the spores (cotton balls) emerged. They conducted this experiment both with and without the wind from a fan. Check out photos below to see our HAMC scientists in action!

7th Graders get the 411 on Viruses
Guest speaker, Dr. Stein, came in this week to teach the 7th grade an informative lesson on "the virus”. Although the students already knew many characteristics of viruses from their science class, they learned so much more from the comprehensive discussion that Dr. Stein held. After hearing all about viruses and their many qualities, the students did some hands on work and had the opportunity to make their very own viruses using paper cutouts.

Trip Prep: New Faces, New Friends
HAMC students had a great time this morning with the students from Hannah Senesh Community Day School in Brooklyn and Carmel Academy (formerly WFHA) in Connecticut.
They all are so happy with their new-found friends, and our sixth-graders are looking forward to TEVA with these schools, our seventh graders are eager to visit Washington DC with Carmel Academy, and our eighth graders are excited to join with Carmel and Hannah Senesh for their Israel experience!
The eighth graders put together some interesting presentations on Israel locations including Eilat, the Dead Sea, the Kinneret, Jerusalem and more. You can view them all on our YouTube page, but here's one we thought was unique for its musical number!
There are a lot of pictures from the morning on our Facebook Page, but here is a preview of the bonding that was going on between the students!

The Business of Pizza
Our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders were excited to have Steve Levy, a retired Wall Street executive, HAMC alumni parent, and HAMC treasurer, at the school to teach a four-part Business 101 class where students will learn about capitalism and how to run a business.
We love to have parents, community members, and professionals involved at our school, helping our students acquire important life skills! Thank you, Steve Levy!
