Pizza Party with Dr. Bahar
Yesterday, our 6th graders had the special treat of making pizzas with Dr. Bahar. They rolled out the sticky dough, poured on the tomato sauce and cheese, and smothered them with a variety of delicious toppings. Their favorite part...? Eating it! Mmmmmmmmmmm!

Welcome to Camp HAMC!
On Thursday morning, sleepaway camp invaded HAMC! Martin Sipicki, a special visitor from Argentina came to the HAMC to give the middle school students a feel for the incredible NJY sleepaway camps. While some of our students already go to NJY sleepaway camps (Camp Cedar Lake, Camp Nesher, and more) others are getting ready to go for their first time this summer! Our visitors put us into the camp spirit, teaching us some catchy camp-fire songs, playing a heated game of Simon Says, and singing and dancing to a camp favorite "Salaam". If we weren't excited for sleepaway camp already, we definitely were after this special event!

Experimenting up a Storm!
Check out photos below from inside the HAMC science labs! The 5th graders learned all about physical and chemical weathering, conducting an experiment shaking chalk stones in both water and vinegar and contrasting the results. Down the hall, the 6th graders were creating model land-fill systems, simulating three different models to explore how each one controls land-fill contamination. Keep checking the blog to learn more about our HAMC scientists hard at work!

Shabbaton 2012!
Even with the arrival of 2012's first snow, this years Shabbaton was a huge success! Our 5th-8th graders had a blast spending the night in school and celebrating Shabbat together.
Here were some of our favorite highlights!
There was a real sense of community and family reflected from the Shabbaton that the students created on their own. The students were filled with so much spirit and excitement throughout the entire Shabbaton and really had an unforgettable weekend. We can't wait for next year!
A big thanks to Moreh Moshe, Mrs. Bacharach, Morah Nurit, Ms. Gates, Jaclyn, Lior and Noga for putting the Shabbaton together and making sure everyone had a great time throughout the weekend!
Check out photos below of before Shabbat (candle lighting) and after shabbat (Havdallah).

Mary Poppins on Broadway!
Last night, the 4th-8th graders ventured to NYC to see Mary Poppins on Broadway!! The students (and chaperones) loved the show and had so much fun experiencing the excitement of New York City theater together.
Check out some of the Mary Poppins “photo shoots” the students took!
“How I Made the Front Page”
This week in the art room, the 6th grade is working on a project entitled, “How I Made the Front Page”. The project involves each student drawing their self-portrait and then pasting their portrait on a real page of newspaper with a news article of their choice. But, making a self-portrait is not an easy task! The students used mirrors to analyze their own facial structure and then did an amazing job translating their mirror images onto paper. With the help of Mrs. Knapp and the students’ artistic talents, the final products are bound to be "front-page worthy”!

In Touch With Nature, Jewishly
Our sixth-grade students are busy on their four-day, three-night Teva Learning Alliance trip in Connecticut with so many activities including night hiking, bread-making, and nature art. The trip is flying by for the students with hot chocolate in the Oolam and hearty meals together.
Every year, our sixth graders go on this four-day, three-night trip with several other Jewish day schools, too. What is Teva?
For more information, click here.
We want our sixth graders to focus on merging Jewish values and culture with the caring and preservation of the Earth, and we hope they'll return with a deeper understanding that as an individual or as a community, we need to take care of the planet that takes cares of us -- Earth!
"The Teva Learning Alliance, North America's foremost Jewish Environmental Education Institute, is a non-denominational educational service for participants from throughout the Jewish community. Working with Jewish Day Schools, Congregational Schools, synagogues, camps and youth groups, Teva's programs touch the lives of 3,000 participants annually."

The Business of Pizza
Our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders were excited to have Steve Levy, a retired Wall Street executive, HAMC alumni parent, and HAMC treasurer, at the school to teach a four-part Business 101 class where students will learn about capitalism and how to run a business.
We love to have parents, community members, and professionals involved at our school, helping our students acquire important life skills! Thank you, Steve Levy!
