"Rak Shalom" at HAMC
This morning we had the privilege of hearing a concert from University of Maryland's amazing Jewish A Cappella group, "Rak Shalom". As an a cappella group, this group of talented college students do not use any instruments in their performances; they only use their voice and body to make music. They sang an eclectic mix of Jewish/Israeli pop songs, like "Zodiac", to English radio songs, like "Just Haven't Met You Yet". The students especially enjoyed a "beatbox" training session where they learned how to make percussive sounds with their mouths (just like a real drum!). Everyone, students and staff alike, were singing along, clapping to the beat, and really enjoyed this unique performance.

A Rosh Chodesh Celebration
This morning we celebrated Rosh Chodesh, the new Hebrew
month of Sh’vat, with a special prayer service and festive breakfast. We also honored those students who had their
Bar/Bat Mitzvahs over the past month by calling them up to the Torah and
listening to each student speak about his/her Torah portion. After Tefilah, we were lucky enough to get a
special surprise from both the HAMC Performing Arts Club and the HAMC
Choir. The Performing Arts club did a
creative rendition of “The Lorax” and the choir sang a classic Israeli medley
and Joni Mitchell’s, “Yellow Taxi”. The audience (especially the staff!) couldn’t
help but sing along and clap to the catchy rhythm. The morning culminated in a delicious bagel
breakfast and an excitement for the new month. Tu B’shvat is coming….!!

"A Window Into Chanukah"
At the Wednesday night Chanukah show, "A Window Into Chanukah", our K-8th graders blew the audience away with their stellar performances! From clarinet solos, to synchronized dances, to hand-bell orchestrations, the show covered so many creative art forms. The students were beaming on stage and exuded such a wonderful energy. The show culminated in a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" with the entire school on stage, glow sticks waving high in the air as they sang the meaningful words in unison.
